I'm a left handed knitter. That wasn't a big deal for me until I started knitting lace. I wanted mine to look like the designers of course. It wasn't working, but why? Because I knit left handed.
So through much trial and error I learned I needed to work the charts from left to right on the right side and from right to left on the back side.
Now when I encounter a special stitch I must work right handed, on a swatch to see what it needs to look like. Then I can figure out on another swatch how to do it correctly left handed.
I learned to knit right handed when I became an instructor. It helps, but doesn't look as good as my left handed knitting.
Before my knitting identity crisis in 2009, I knit a mystery dishcloth. It was to say "KISS" for February, but mine was completely backwards. The "KISS" was on the back, not the front. That's when I knew for sure I had problems. I went to a lace class at my LYS, hoping to find out what to do as a lefty, the instructor was no help. I asked why mine looked just like hers even though I was a lefty and she told me "it just all works out." Only because the pattern is symmetrical, I later found out.
I have learned a lot about being a left handed knitter in the last 2 years. Hoping that these pages will help other "lefties" not to struggle so much.
